About Us

We’re Not a Restaurant. We’re Not a Review Site. We’re Something Different.

Menu Static is a free, community-powered library of authentic restaurant menus in PDF format. We don’t rate food. We don’t rank kitchens. We don’t tell you where to eat. What we do — quietly, consistently, and with genuine care — is make sure that when you want to know what a restaurant is actually serving and what it actually costs, you can find out in seconds. No broken links. No blurry photos. No outdated guesswork. Just the real menu, exactly as the restaurant made it.

We are a platform built by diners, for diners. And we believe that something as simple as a clear, readable menu is something every person deserves access to — whether they’re planning a birthday dinner in their hometown or researching restaurants in a city they’ve never visited before.

Our Story – It Started With a Frustration Everyone Recognizes

Menu Static began with a problem that sounds almost too ordinary to take seriously — until you’ve hit it one too many times yourself.

Someone was planning a dinner out. They had a restaurant in mind. They’d heard good things, the location was right, and the occasion called for something a little special. All they needed was the menu — just to check the prices, make sure there were options for everyone at the table, confirm it was the right fit. What they found instead was a photograph, taken at an angle, in dim lighting, showing about two-thirds of a single page, uploaded four years ago. The prices were barely legible. Half the dishes were cut off. There was no way to know if any of it was still accurate.

That experience — unremarkable in its details but genuinely maddening in the moment — turned out to be nearly universal. Ask anyone who eats out regularly, and they’ll have a version of the same story. The restaurant exists. The food is real. But somewhere between the kitchen and the internet, the menu gets lost.

Menu Static was the answer to that problem. Not a complicated answer. Not a flashy one. Just a library — clean, organized, and committed to one thing above all else: giving diners access to the actual menu, in the format it was designed to be read in.

We started small. A handful of menus, a handful of contributors, a simple idea. Over time, the library grew. Cities were added. Cuisines expanded. Contributors from dozens of countries began uploading menus from restaurants they loved, restaurants they’d stumbled across while traveling, restaurants they thought deserved to be easier to find. Today, Menu Static holds menus from restaurants across more than 120 countries, and new contributions arrive every single day.

What We Believe – A Few Principles We Take Seriously

We are a small platform with a clear point of view. These are the ideas that shape everything we do.

Information should be easy to find. A restaurant puts real thought, creativity, and craft into its menu. That document deserves to be accessible. Not buried. Not degraded. Not lost behind a broken link. Every diner, in every city, should be able to find out what a restaurant serves and what it costs without having to work for it.

Format matters. A PDF is not just a file type. It is a commitment to preserving the original. When a restaurant designs a menu — the layout, the fonts, the sections, the language they use to describe a dish — they are communicating something about who they are. A screenshot loses that. A typed transcription loses it. The original PDF keeps it. That is why we insist on PDFs and nothing else.

Community is the only way to scale. No single team could document the restaurants of the world. The only way a library like this can work — genuinely work, across 120 countries, across thousands of cuisines, across neighborhoods that no algorithm would ever prioritize — is if the people who care about those places are the ones who build it. Our contributors are the reason Menu Static exists in the form it does. They always will be.

Access should be free. Good information about food is not a luxury. It helps people make decisions that are right for their budget, their dietary needs, their occasion, their group. Putting that information behind a paywall is something we have never done and do not intend to do.

We Don’t Own the Menus, We’re Just the Messengers

This is something we want to be completely clear about, because it matters.

The menus you find on Menu Static do not belong to us. They belong to the restaurants that created them. Every menu in our library is the intellectual property of the restaurant whose name appears on it — the result of their creativity, their culinary decisions, their brand identity, and their business. We did not write them. We did not design them. We did not commission them. We are simply making them easier to find.

Think of Menu Static the way you might think of a library that holds newspapers from around the world. The library did not write the news. It did not photograph the events. It did not choose the headlines. It collected, organized, and made accessible something that already existed — so that anyone who wants to read it can do so without difficulty. That is exactly what we do with menus.

Our contributors upload menus they have sourced from restaurants directly — documents that restaurants have produced and, in many cases, made publicly available themselves. We host those documents, we organize them, and we connect diners with them. But ownership never transfers. A menu uploaded to Menu Static today is still the property of the restaurant that created it tomorrow, and the day after that, and always.

If you are a restaurant and you would like a menu removed from our library, we will honor that request without question. Your menu is yours. We are just the messengers, sharing your work with the world — and we believe that sharing it helps more diners discover you, trust you, and choose you. But the moment you tell us you’d prefer it not be here, it comes down. Full stop.

The People Behind the Platform

Menu Static is maintained by a small, dedicated team who care deeply about food, travel, and the idea that good information should be simple to access. We are not a large company. We do not have a marketing department or a venture-backed roadmap. We are people who eat out, who travel, who have experienced the same frustrations that built this platform — and who believe that a better solution is worth building and maintaining.

Beyond the core team, Menu Static is shaped by its contributors. They are the ones who have turned a simple idea into a library that spans continents. Some contributors have uploaded a single menu from a local restaurant they wanted to share. Others have contributed dozens, systematically documenting the dining scenes of cities they know well. Some are professionals in the food industry. Most are simply people who enjoy eating and want to make it easier for others to do the same.

We are grateful for every single one of them.

What You Can Expect From Us

We will always keep the library free. We will always insist on authentic, original PDFs rather than settling for lower-quality alternatives. We will always respond to removal requests from restaurants and flag reports from users. We will always work to improve search, accuracy, and the overall experience of using Menu Static — because we use it too, and we want it to be as good as it can be.

We will not sell your data. We will not clutter the platform with advertising that compromises your experience. We will not sacrifice the integrity of the library for the sake of growing it faster. Quality matters more to us than quantity, even though we want both.

And we will always be honest about what we are: a library, not a restaurant guide. A tool for finding menus, not for deciding which restaurant is best. The decision of where to eat is yours. We just want to make sure you have everything you need to make it well.

Help Build Something Worth Having

If you’ve found a menu that isn’t in our library yet, upload it. If you’ve spotted one that’s out of date, flag it or replace it. If you think a listing is missing something useful, add a note. Every small action compounds into something larger — a library that is more complete, more accurate, and more useful for every diner who comes after you.

Menu Static is worth using because people contribute to it. It gets better every time someone decides that sharing takes less than a minute and is worth doing anyway. If that sounds like you, welcome. You’re already part of what this is.

At Menu Static, we don’t just show you what’s for dinner — we show you the whole experience, one PDF at a time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to create an account to use Menu Static?

No account is needed to browse, search, or download menus. If you want to contribute a menu to the library, you can do so quickly and without a lengthy sign-up process. We’ve kept the barrier to participation as low as possible, because the easier it is to contribute, the better the library gets for everyone.

Can I read menus on my phone?

Yes. All menus are hosted as PDF files optimized for viewing across devices — desktop, tablet, and smartphone. You can open a menu directly in your browser or download it to your device to read offline. If you’re walking to a restaurant and want to check the menu on the way, it works just as well as if you were sitting at home planning ahead.

How do I upload a menu?

Navigate to the Upload page, attach your PDF file, enter the restaurant name and location, and optionally add a short note about the cuisine or a dish worth highlighting. The whole process takes under a minute. Your contribution goes live in the library and becomes immediately searchable by anyone looking for that restaurant.

What kinds of menus can I upload?

We accept official PDF menus produced by the restaurant itself — the same documents a restaurant prints, distributes at tables, or publishes on its own website. We do not accept handwritten transcriptions, screenshots converted to PDF, menus retyped into new templates, or any document that isn’t an authentic original. This standard exists to protect the integrity of the library and to ensure that every menu we host is genuinely representative of the restaurant it came from.

Do you share my data with third parties?

We do not sell or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. Any information associated with a contribution — such as a username or upload history, if you have an account — is used solely to maintain the integrity of the library and improve the platform experience. Our full privacy policy is available on the site and outlines exactly what we collect, how we use it, and how you can request its deletion.

Can restaurants request that their menu be removed?

Yes. If you are a restaurant owner or authorized representative and you would like a menu removed from our library — for any reason, including outdated information or a preference not to be listed — you can submit a removal request through our contact page. We process these requests promptly and without requiring extensive documentation. We respect that a restaurant’s menu is its own intellectual property, and we are committed to honoring those requests.
